WORKSHOP

“Loose, Expressive Watercolors – Flowers, Faces & Figures” - with janet rogers1

November 19–21, 2026
9am - 4pm EST

KMAC

715 W, Main Street, Louisville, KY 40202

We will begin this workshop with floral images to experience the discovery of color and valuefrom a limited palette. Through a series of fun painting exercises, students will develop a more loose and natural approach – giving them an opportunity to be more spontaneous and expressive in their paintings.

In our approach to learning how to interpret the head and figure, we will learn about the structure of the head, how to paint translucent flesh tones, while focusing on the gesture of the person.  We will also learn how to paint the features, hair and background.  Although we will work primarily from photos – can be mine that I bring (each student will get a photo of my demo together with my freehand drawing (which I will send ahead of time so you can trace or draw) – or you can bring your favorites!

In addition to class demonstrations throughout the workshop, Janet will work individually with each person also, making sure they understand the painting concepts – a truly “hands on” experience.  If time permits we will do a few exercises on figures (I can supply photos (have to return to me) or you can bring some!  We will be focusing on discovering how to control and make dynamic color, design and expression, we will also have “Show and Tell” – an opportunity to share and see how we exceed in our expectations!!!

Workshop cost: $375 for KWS Members; $400 for Non Members.
